Following the box office success of Money No Enough 2, Singapore’s most prolific movie director Jack Neo is on the lookout for fresh faces to star in his next movie.
On 13 September, a group of bright-eyed youths turned up at the *scape Youth Centre to audition for supporting roles in Neo’s upcoming Chinese New Year film, to be released in 2009.
The hopefuls were handed a script to read and they had to deliver their lines in front of two directors. A cameraman recorded the entire audition on a handheld camcorder so film producers could later review the tapes and make casting decisions.
Jody Doo, 20, undergraduate from the Singapore Institute of Management shared, “I auditioned in a very light-hearted manner. My objective was to try out, and I’m not really expecting any big outcome.” Urged to audition at the behest of her friend, Jody added, “It’s really fun to stretch my limits and see what I can achieve.”
The award-winning director has produced a series of box office hits from I Not Stupid to Money No Enough 1 & 2, and Just Follow Law under his own production company, Neo Studios, for Raintree Pictures.
Besides actively grooming young acting talents, Neo is also searching for budding movie directors and scriptwriters via a nationwide competition. To sign up for the contest, visit www.neostudios.com.sg.
