On Saturday, 4 October 2008, more than 100 elderly and 20 volunteers paid a visit to three museums in Singapore. This event was part of an initiative started by City Harvest Community Services Association (CHCSA) to create opportunities for the elderly to make friends.
While school excursions are common, one for the elderly is a fairly new concept in Singapore. The outing was in line with the nation’s call for “lifelong learning.”
Irene Ho, a staff member at CHCSA, said that the exhibition at the newly refurbished National Museum of Singapore was chosen because the elderly could relate to the era in which they grew up. It was a great walk down memory lane for many of them.

CHCSA regularly organizes activities for the elderly, which have included a Mid-Autumn’s Day celebration for Mountbatten residents. These senior citizens can look forward to future events such as a ride on the Singapore Flyer and a trip to Malaysia.
