Breaking the mindset that Christians are a rigid and dull people, ET (Edmund Tay) Zone took the cultural mandate to a whole new level at an event on 8 November 2008. Titled “Bling!”, this event was a mix of a whole range of culture-engaging segments such as modern dance, makeovers, popular games and fashion elements.
The target group ranged from school students all the way to young adults, many of whom were greatly energized in preparing for the event. Everyone had an objective — to look their Bling-est on that day. To crank up the fun, each cell group also had to form their unique identity, as the Best Dressed Cell Group would be awarded attractive prizes.
The hosts of this phenomenal event were the popular OKTO stars Lucas, Primero and Candice — their presence created great excitement among the crowd.
“Bling!” started off with a beatbox performance, followed by a modern hip-hop dance item. That marked a successful debut performance of the ET dance team, which consists of dancers full of talent and potential, though not professionally-trained.
The crowd thoroughly enjoyed themselves there. Next up was a game show called “I see you see I see you” where out of four characters on stage, the audience had to figure out which act was the real thing. The people had to guess according to categories such as the best limbo-rocker, the national skipping champion and an interesting addition “Guess who’s eating the delicious sandwich” competition.

The highlight of the event was the makeover, which had “ordinary” members undergo a transformation. When each of these “models” sashayed down the runway in their new hairdo, makeup and eye-catching outfits, their cell group members could not recognize them!
“Bling! is special because we can see another side of the members when they really dress up! The games were fun and also able to bond the zone and cell group together!” said Alfred Leow of cell group E462.
Said one of the Bling! dancers, Ravi Rayan, “this event shows friends that it’s not just about reading the Bible and praying, but using talents to shine for God and to learn new things as well. Even if one can’t dance, being willing does it!”
This hugely successful event brought on a new wave of creativity and showed that Christians can be fun, fashionable and, at the same time, fervent for God.
