“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” — Matthew 5:14-15.
Perhaps no other verse is as apt to describe the latest work from the City Harvest worship team. A 12-track strong album full of songs composed by the talented musicians in the church, Light of the City is fresh and original.
Edgy rock riffs on the energetic praise track “Elevate Your Name” and the raw, heartfelt lyrics of the worship tunes like “My Life, Your Song” give the album its color and appeal amongst churchgoers today.
City Harvest members can expect new arrangements of their favorite songs such as “Heaven”, “God of My Forever” and “The God I Know”, which are more popularly sung in church. This album also features new song leaders and vocalists aside from the anchor vocals.
Just as its album title suggests, Light of the City seeks to bring across a message that as Jesus is the light of the world, so are we as His church, the light in the world we live in today.
Sheila Jang, 20, has this to say of the new songs: “There is a dynamism in the latest praise songs that are on the album. I really like it. The CHC band has certainly outdone themselves once again.”
“The lyrics written are relevant to every Christian and spurs a desire for us to live out our lives in holiness, and at the same time, the music, being contemporary, blends in seamlessly and relates to the now,” says Stephanie Chan, 22, one of the keyboardists on the church music team.
Worship music is one of the most powerful tools in modern day Christianity and without a doubt, the City Harvest worship team is taking praise and worship a step forward in the right direction, creating a new sound with tunes that are a hit with the generation of this age. This album echoes the desire of the Church and believers for a deeper connection with God, to bring His light to our city!
