From 5 to 7 January 2009, the AirCrew Fellowship (AF1) embarked on the inaugural AF camp — aptly named “AF Survivor Bintan, ala aircrew style” — Camp participants stayed in nice fully air-conditioned villas, with hot water and great food! Led by Susan Dunn, heading the AirCrew Fellowship, a total of six guys, seven gals and the three adorable kids made up the entire party of the camp.
The crew was divided into three tribes — High Council, Mann Villa (guys) & WoMann Villa (gals). It was battle of the sexes between the guys and the gals in competitions such as Cooking Challenge, Pool Challenge and Taboo Challenge.
The Mann and WoMann Villas pitted their culinary skills against each other by taking turns to prepare lunch and dinner, with the High Council Villa judging throughout the camp. The crew greatly impressed the judges with their cooking skills and creativity. On the first night, the guys prepared a sumptuous Western-style BBQ dinner. Not to be outdone, the next day, the creative ‘Singapore girls’ cooked up a storm by preparing a seven-course Chinese-styled lunch, with creative creations like rice balls and soya chicken wings!
The culmination of the camp was the sit-down “Surf-and-Turf” dinner prepared by the talented guys, complete with mock sharksfin soup! By the end of the camp, the WoMann Villa made a clean sweep of ALL the challenges and emerged the AF Survivor 2009 Champion!

The camp was not just about fun and competition. Every morning saw the crew in the presence of God in worship and prayer, while each night, Dunn led the camp in devotion from the Bible. She brought encouragement with the verse from Hebrews 6:10-12, “For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” This word undoubtedly brought a refreshing to the crew and gave them renewed strength and purpose in their vocation. It was definitely a GREAT start to the year 2009!
