A big crowd gathered at Suntec City on the morning of 30 May, to mark the launch a new City Harvest Church Children’s Church Service at the Singapore Expo.
This special first convoy of 117 children and 18 parents took a Hippo bus tour to mark the launch of a new Children’s Church service on Saturdays at 1pm. The air was filled with Anticipation and joy as the children hurried to board three colourful, topless open top buses.
Following warm greetings from the Hippo tour captain, the journey kicked off with some instructions on safety bus rules. The kids were entertained as the bus proceeded to take them on a city tour. The adults sang birthday songs to the children whose birthdays fell in the month of June. And the kids were treated to a live commentary as they passed through major heritage sites in Singapore like Little India and Chinatown.

Damien Xiang, 10, said, “The bus ride is very fun, and I got to know a lot of things about Singapore that I never knew before.”
When asked about the inspiration of having a Hippo bus tour for a launch celebration, Wendy Chong, a Zone Supervisor of Children’s church commented saying, “The idea came about when we wanted to bless and bring the children out for a city tour during their holidays. The Hippo tour was a perfect fit!”
The trip not only educated the children on their own country, but also entertained them. Dyon Teo, a mother of two who were on the bus tour, said, “I think the kids enjoyed themselves a lot. It is very good exposure for the kids to learn about the various places in Singapore.”
