For one night on 20 May, for one hour, fans were transported into the rock kingdom of Taiwanese rock-pop duo Y2J in a special mini concert at the Lunar Asian Fusion Bar.
Consisting of One Million Star Season 2‘s winner, Yuming Lai, as well as the winner of the “Most Popular” vote, Jane Huang, the duo have been hailed as the rock group to watch out for in the Chinese music scene.
Dressed in matching white and black striped outfits, Lai and Huang proved worthy of their accolades, wowing the crowd with their effortless singing and playing. Their vocal prowess was impressively constant on every song, whether ballad or rock anthem. The unique East-West interior of Lunar provided the perfect background for their modern rock style.
It seems that fans cannot get enough of Y2J, who visited Singapore just a few months ago. All the tables at Lunar were reserved in advance by eager fans, while others squashed themselves in the mosh pit. Backed by Lunar’s resident band, Y2J’s second time playing at the bar was an intimate, cosy affair. Unlike the pure rock effort from their previous showcase, this time, the pair concentrated on delivering soulful performances with their softer songs off their debut album, Live For You.
The crowd grew louder with every hit, clearly mesmerised by Y2J’s passionate yet classy performance. In between, the stars made friendly jokes about one another and with the fans. Each song was punctuated with screams and shout-outs from the highly energetic fans.

Both Lai and Huang each sang a song, showing the crowd that they could easily hold their own, and shine in their own right. But it was when the two combined forces that they rocked the room. Saving the most anticipated song of the night for last, ‘Live For You’, Lai and Huang had their fans singing along and chanting for encores.
It seemed all too soon when this night of “One Million Stars” was over. Fans can only wait patiently for this for Y2J to step foot on our shores once again.
