On the evening of July 2, three young vocalists were spotted showcasing their vocal prowess along the streets of Dhoby Ghaut for the U@Shine event, part of the SHINE Youth Festival. Coached by Erick Guansing, a performing artiste, each of them sang a range of five to six songs each. Lending a lively atmosphere to the evening, their performances caught the attention of passers-by who stopped to listen.
Ryan Sean Flores, 19, started off with songs such as “I Believe I Can Fly,” “Black Box” as well as “Let’s Stay Together.” His well-received performance had crowds of supporters throwing their hands into the air, waving to the beat of the songs. When interviewed on stage later, Flores said that he started singing at the age of four, and further developed his passion for singing when he started serving in the choir ministry at City Harvest Church. As it was his first ever performance in such a setting, he was admittedly nervous, but thankful for the opportunity.
He said, “This has motivated me even more and inspired me to work harder at my craft.” Flores and his friends will be involved in another upcoming concert at Esplanade at the end of the year.
