While it is a centuries-old form of exercise, yoga has indeed caught up with the times, or rather, slowed down to match the sedentary lifestyle of the office worker. While officiating its new premises at The Centrepoint along Orchard Road on Sep. 23 in conjunction with its second year anniversary, Real Yoga unveiled a new form of yoga exercise, designed with the deskbound office worker in mind—the Chair Yoga.
Aiming to correct common ailments that beset office workers in areas such as the neck, shoulders, spine and hips, the exercise does not necessitate a change of clothes. As demonstrated by Real Yoga’s in-house guru, Saumik Bera and Malaysian-born actress Elaine Daly, it requires only 10 to 15 minutes of twisting, stretching, and lengthening of the spine to eliminate stiffness and promote proper circulation, all to be performed on a chair.
Real Yoga instructors are currently offering a complimentary trip to interested offices to demonstrate and teach the proper form and breathing techniques of Chair Yoga for one month.
