Alongside Boyzone, Irish Cream and St. Patrick, the theatrical phenomenon Riverdance is one of Ireland’s most well-known exports. Having performed to more than 22 million fans worldwide at 300 venues throughout 32 countries across four continents and grossing over US$1.6 billion, it will be performed on Singapore soil for the first time in two weeks’ time. For the benefit of the Justin Bieber/Miley Cyrus generation, Riverdance focuses on the evolution of Irish dance, drawing from Irish traditions and folk music to produce the highly exact yet artistic art of tap-dancing. It will be performed by the elite Riverdance Irish Troupe.
Developed by Moya Doherty, an Irish advocate well-known for her promotion of new and challenging theatrical work in Ireland, Riverdance started out as a seven-minute interval act for the Eurovision Song Contest held in Dublin in April 1994. It has since evolved into a sell-out act in its own right, making it more than a fitting opening show for MBS’ new Sands Theater.
Riverdance will be performed from Nov. 30 to Dec. 12 at Marina Bay Sands. Tickets at S$70 to S$170 from Sistic.
