Say goodbye to the days of long queues and enter into a world of endless possibilities at the touch of your fingers.
Alex Khor is the director of Janna Systems Pte Ltd which specializes in self-service and consultancy. The company designs, manufactures and integrates self-service kiosk solutions for information, transaction and printing purposes. Saving time is the key, as Khor explains, “Basically the advantages are convenience, saving time and avoiding long queues. Rather than queuing at the bank, you can have access to ATM services available in many places.”
Khor is formally educated in electrical and electronics engineering and has been involved in the IT business for more than 25 years. He started off working in multinational companies and dabbled in many aspects of IT. “All these years, I was involved in a variety of job scopes, from technology and product development, to sales marketing and support, and even designing.” Drawing from his wealth of experience, he set up Janna Systems.
Janna Systems develops the hardware system of the kiosks and works with software vendors to add in software values such as providing hotel check-in and check-out self services. The kiosks have wide applications and can be found in many places. At the Youth Olympic Games in August this year, the kiosks in the Youth Olympic Village enabled athletes to top up pre-paid cards for utilities and food payment. Janna Systems also works with government departments and adds software value to places such as polyclinics and libraries. For example, in the Immigrations & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore building, the customer can use the kiosks for passport and visa applications and make payment via NETS or credit card.
Customer expectations of self-service kiosks are challenges that Khor encounters on a daily basis. He pointed out, “They expect that their demands are met very quickly. Some have very high expectations, and sometimes, their demands border on the impossible.” Yet, customer satisfaction is always on the company’s mind. Khor emphasizes, “We make sure we consult our customers, so that at end of day the project is successful. Our major satisfaction is when we help them work out a solution that works well for them.” Being customer-oriented has its rewards. “Throughout all these years, our customers are still with us. It is important to us that the system works for the customers.”
Khor was also involved in Digital Signage World Asia 2010 which brought together the world’s largest flat-panel display vendors and IT companies. “Besides branding, the purpose of this conference was to understand the market and to get to know our customers and build networks,” Khor says.

One of the objectives in this business is not just to sell and build a solution, but also to be able to help customers to understand what works for them.”
Khor credits his success to God. “I depend entirely on God. I trust God because it is not easy to grow a business. You need to have a God factor in the picture, especially in the technology industry which is so challenging.”
Khor is deeply impacted by the messages of Ed Silvoso’s marketplace ministry to reach out to the marketplace. “In fact this is my heart. I believe in the marketplace ministry. I believe God for my business to be able to reach out to the region and impact the world, and I would be able to do business throughout the world with the know-how and technology I have acquired over the past 25 years.”
To this successful entrepreneur, business is not only making money, but a God-given calling to fulfill the Great Commandment of reaching out to people all over the world with the gospel. “My business takes me to places where I am able to reach out to people for God. This is one of the thing I have been telling God; it is not just about the money, but growing at the same time (and) reaching out to people.”
Indeed, Khor is fulfilling the Cultural Mandate in the marketplace by shining for God and being successful, and also the Great Commandment by reaching out to people through his business.
