Inaugurated at the end of 2008, The Marketplace ministry started with the aim of empowering members via two avenues—the teaching of godly principles and values, as well as providing community-based support to businesses and businesspeople. Currently, membership stands at a strong 500.
At the heart of The Marketplace are initiatives such as networking sessions, workshops, mentoring as well as overseas trade missions. Goh Yock Kiang, chairman of The Marketplace, is also being mentored by Paul Kim, executive director of Church Growth International and managing director of Parakletos Ventures, through Skype sessions.
The ministry has also extended its influence past Singapore’s shores into the international arena, venturing out into countries such as China and Indonesia. They also conduct monthly company visits with The Marketplace members for prayer, networking, learning and exploring opportunities. Another highlight was organizing the Church Growth International-Asia Conference 2010 trade fair which was well received by the conference participants.
Judging by the exciting things the ministry was part of in 2010, which included a trip to Hawaii for the 20th Annual Transform Our World Global Conference, trips and luncheons which build relationships that explore possible collaborations with the business community in Fujian and Chengdu, and even meeting the former chief economist of China who was in charge of all the state owned enterprises in Beijing, The Marketplace looks set to soar to greater heights in 2011.
