On the weekend of Jan. 22 to 23, one of City Harvest Chinese Church’s pastors, Joseph Ang, led a team of three members to Kuching Harvest Church in East Malaysia. This was his second trip to Kuching and Ang was warmly welcomed by the pastoral team and the congregation there.
Ang conducted a total of four meetings: one youth service, two Mandarin services, and one English service. The English service was the latest addition to the church’s weekly schedule and was newly formed in order to reach out to the English-speaking community in Kuching. A total of 600 attended the various services over that weekend.
A HEART TO SERVE
Kelvin Law, 47, who just received Christ four months ago, was part of this mission trip. Although young in the faith, he displayed a willingness to serve in any way possible. He was invited to share his testimony of God’s goodness in his life since he became a believer; how his relationship with his wife and children has seen great improvement. This was one of the highlights of the trip for him.
Another CHC member, Jonathan Lau, 20, a cell group leader, took the opportunity to impart to others his knowledge and skills in evangelizing. He introduced CHC’s Caring System and shared how it helped him to reach out to his friends in school and eventually brought them to church.
The trip also served as an opportunity for exchanging ideas. After hearing from the CHC team, the members from Kuching Harvest Church shared that the tool they used in evangelism was known as “Andrew Witnessing”: church members would visit family and friends and share the gospel with them.
MINISTERING TO OTHERS
In one of the meetings, Ang shared a message on how to build an intimate relationship with God. As he was preaching the Word, many hearts began to open up and it was evident how many people were touched when many rushed responded to the subsequent altar call.
Ang himself was blessed by the trip. He was moved to see youths as young as 13 playing in the church band, and leading the adult congregation in worship. He was also delighted to discover how much the church had grown since his last visit—there were many praise reports of lives that had been touched by God and had changed for the better.
BLESSINGS FROM HEAVEN
Since 2010, Kuching Harvest Church had instituted morning prayer meetings to encourage their members to pray and intercede for their families, friends and city. With that, the entire congregation began to witness miracles and breakthroughs, as a church, and in individual lives.
One such member, who attended these morning prayer meetings regularly, shared a powerful healing testimony about her sister who was a non-believer. Her sister was initially diagnosed with final-stage cancer and was even resuscitated three times during her stay in the hospital. This member took the chance and started to share the gospel with her sister who opened up her heart and accepted Christ. After continuous prayer for her sister’s complete healing, she was eventually healed of her ailment and the doctors discharged her from the hospital.
The CHC team were blessed by this trip. One of the team members, Daniel Lee Khu Hee, 28, discovered through this trip that walking with God closely requires certain sacrifices and isn’t easy all the time. But as he was ministered and ministering on this trip, he saw how lives were blessed in return. “This trip was definitely worth it,” he affirmed.
