Indonesian singer, songwriter and pianist Caroline Tjen treated fans to a live performance during the Story Song Life event on Feb. 8 at The Library@Esplanade. She was one of the four performers of the evening, who took turns at the microphone and playing on the piano. The event, which saw a turnout of approximately 50 audience members, was chilled out and intimate.
Tjen struck an emotional chord with the audience when she shared the story behind her recently released album Because Of Love—it was produced as a collective labor of love to raise funds for her 62-year-old mother Suzie Sarmili’s ongoing cancer treatment. “Love is more than a word, it’s something that you do, and you need to sacrifice sometimes,” she shared with the audience.
She sang four of her original compositions from the album, including “A Dream Of Mine” and “Because of Love.” She also sang “Jesus Be Glorified” which she penned just two days earlier, before closing her performance with “There For Me.”
Another memorable performance came from Catherine Estabillo, who mesmerized the audience as she sang the ballad “Only Hope” from the motion picture A Walk To Remember and “Reflection” from the Disney animated film Mulan.
