Catch a nostalgic outdoor movie experience right in the heart of town with a rare screening of Singaporean movie classics dating back from the 1960s to recent productions.
Besides the 2010 film Being Human which explores the unethical practices of the local slimming industry and One Leg Kicking, the 2001 football comedy starring Gurmit Singh and Mark Lee, the event is also screening the only surviving version of Dynamite Johnson (1978), a low-budget but entertaining production starring a 9-year-old karate champion Johnson Yap as the world’s first bionic boy. Teaming up with his aunt (Marrie Lee), he attempts to track down and defeat a nasty Nazi. The film belongs to the Asian Film Archive, a charity founded in 2005 which aims to preserve Singapore films against deterioration caused by the passage of time.
Bring your picnic mat and basket to complete the evening. Seats, free goodie bags and popcorn are up for grabs on a first-come-first-serve basis. Singapore Movies Under The Stars is hosted by the Media Development Authority of Singapore and supported by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.
Singapore Movies Under The Stars is on March 26 to 27, 8 p.m. to midnight at Level 1 PLAYSCAPE, *SCAPE. Free admission. Log on to www.smf.sg to register.
