Who doesn’t love a romantic, surprising marriage proposal? On April 17, Alvin Wee of cell group E483 dressed up as a cute bunny and surprised his girlfriend and fellow cell group member Joan Soh by asking her to marry him in front of their cell group members and other church attendees in the auditorium.
“He had told me that he was working that day, so I went for service with my cell group. After service, our cell group gathered to take photos for their Facebook page. When one of our members led the bunny out from backstage, I thought it was from Children’s Church since it was nearing Easter,” said Soh.
The members started taking solo photos with the bunny. When it came to Soh’s turn, the bunny suddenly presented her with a bouquet of flowers.
“He took off the bunny head and got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him,” she laughs, remembering.
For Wee, planning his proposal had not been easy. The couple had already been talking about marriage, but how he was going to ask had to be a surprise. “I was going through some websites to get ideas when I came across mascots. I rented the bunny outfit because she likes rabbits.”
Wee and Soh, both 29 and both engineers, first met in polytechnic before they entered university. Wee, a CHC member since 1999, invited Soh to church during Easter 2008, and she soon became part of his cell group. The couple started dating about two years ago. Their wedding is planned for March 2012.
