Farewells are never easy. And this particular one was especially heart-wrenching.
After 16 wonderful years in City Harvest Church, Derek Dunn and his wife Susan have decided to move back to Atlanta, USA, in order to take care of his sick mother, who is in need of a lot of attention and care. Though it was a very tough decision for them, the couple felt that they needed to honor Dunn’s mother and fulfill their duties as children.
Last weekend, the CHC staff and cell group leaders threw a farewell party for the Dunns and their three children. It was a heart-warming time, as various staff members shared how Dunn and Susan had touched their lives, impacted their ministries and personally discipled them. The sincere and heartfelt speeches brought tears to many in the room, as they reminiscenced about the wonderful journey they had taken together.
As executive pastor, Dunn headed the Pastoral Department, Usher, iCare and Expatriate Ministry in the church. In the many years he has given to serve the Lord, he has impacted countless people and is loved by many. To those who have had the privilege to work with him, he is not just a boss, he is also a trustworthy friend and counselor who gives timely and reassuring advice.
Although they will be deeply missed, the staff of CHC know that this move has been orchestrated by God. As many said to the Dunns at the farewell party, “We may be apart, yet the friendships and relationships forged over the years will not be broken. Pastor Derek and Susan, we love you and will be keeping you in our prayers. You will always be a part of our family here in Singapore.”
