City Harvest’s love gift to Focus on the Family Singapore helps support its work of strengthening the core of a nation—the family unit.
In 2012, it reached out to more than 31,000 people through impact programs advocating healthy family lives, and counseled over 200 clients whose relationships with their spouses, children or parents were in crisis. Focus on the Family Singapore is a local charity that provides quality family life education spanning areas of marriage, parenthood, work-life balance and more.
“In all our programs and events we are not just spreading the message of family but creating transformation in our culture that will build strong children in loving homes. Research has shown that girls with involved fathers are more likely to have healthier, confident relationships with boys in adolescence and men in adulthood. Our A Date With Dad event aims to encourage fathers to affirm their daughter’s worth by taking her out on a special date,” explains executive director Lim Yu Ming.
“The family forms the foundation of a nation. Focus on the Family has been helping and building families in Singapore all these years. We want to keep supporting their good works,” says City Harvest pastor Jeremy Choy, who was on hand to present a love gift to help fund the work of Focus on the Family Singapore.
The love gift is a part of the offerings collected during one of CHC’s all-night prayer meetings conducted every Friday. Over the past few months since the prayer meeting started in September 2012, contributions have been made to various charity organizations including the Melrose Home for youth-at-risk, Apex Harmony Lodge, a home for dementia patients and House of JOY, a senior activity center.
“We really appreciate every dollar contributed and we will continue our work of bringing sound moral values into families in Singapore,” adds Lim. Besides events such as A Date With Dad, Focus on the Family Singapore offers personal counseling sessions, workshops catering to specific groups from youth to working adults, married couples and parents and talks addressing pertinent issues including how to express love to one’s children and how to coach and discipline them.
Focus on the Family is also looking to expand its team with several job openings available, including a Human Resource Manager and an Accounts Executive. For more information on applications, log on to www.family.org.sg.
