The youth of AZ Zone had a rocking good time at the recent Camp OCTRIS.
Over 120 youths from the district led by Aries Zulkarnain, executive pastor of City Harvest Church, attended Camp OCTRIS–a camp that taught them to step out of their comfort zone.
Held on Mar 21, Camp OCTRIS–short for On Christ The Rock I Stand–was designed to build and strengthen the foundation of the youths in the district, at the same time help them recognize their standing in Christ. In the two days and one night spent on Pulau Ubin, campers went beyond their limits and gained many experiences.
One of these experiences were the intricate games and activities that required campers to accomplish different tasks across the island. The youths were grouped into different houses and teams to complete the different station games. After the completion of each station, the facilitators would debrief with the campers, teaching them the principle and value behind the task they just performed. This gave the campers faith-based understanding.
The presence of the Holy Spirit was tangible during the worship nights and morning devotion sessions during which campers were fed the Word of God. For most campers, the worship night was most memorable as it was the first time they worshiped God by a campfire. Many experienced personal encounters with God after learning what they needed to understand in order to find their calling in life. During the morning devotion sessions, the campers learned how God has made each of them lovingly and that He has plans for each of them.
The group leaders from each team were also given opportunity to share a message on the theme of the camp: “On Christ The Rock I Stand”.
On the last day, Zulkarnain shared a message on how God wants to use the youth members of the church. The campers learned that despite their young age and their lack of experience, they can still be the salt and light in the Kingdom of God.
Empowered by the many enlightening sharing sessions, many campers left Camp OCTRIS touched by revelations they received from God. The fun-filled games also allowed campers to discover unity and the different aspects of faith. For many, it was a life-changing experience.
