To celebrate some very special mothers, City Harvest Church’s JAMs ministry organized a talent show for Mother’s Day.
Mom is that person who makes our breakfast, does our laundry and finds our missing socks. But this Mother’s Day, CHC’s JAMs ministry put up a talent show to show the children a different side to their mothers.
The event, Wow Mom, saw some 422 mothers and children coming together on Mother’s Day. To kick off the event, JAMS ministry’s volunteers put up a special video montage of the JAMS members and their mom. Titled “Happy Mother’s Day, I love you Mommy!” it warmed the hearts of all the mothers present.
“We want the moms in our midst to come out of the shadows of their family duties, and have a moment to have fun and just be themselves—that’s why we came up with all these different programs in this event,” said Santhi Singaram, a zone supervisor in JAMs ministry.
Another purpose of the event was to allow moms to revisit their talents which they may have abandoned over the years,” Singaram added. One mother, Mrs Tham, 50, plucked up her courage to play the keyboard for the first time in more than two decades.
A talent that most mothers possess is cooking. The moms of JAMs ministry showed off their chops during Droolicious Dessert!, a segment that let them whip up delicious desserts for all the attendees.
JAMs ministry pastor Lily Yong and zone supervisor Adiel Choy each put up a performance in celebration of Mother’s Day as well. When the children saw Choy dancing to One Direction’s “That’s What Makes You Beautiful”, they too got up on their feet up and danced along her at the stage front.
More than presenting mothers with pretty flowers and the cards of appreciation, Yong encouraged the JAMs members to give their mothers their love, care and support. Encouraging the children to appreciate their mothers, Yong said, “No matter how hard or how tough life may be, our moms will always have the supernatural strength to go through it.”
She added that mothers bring three things to a family: faith in their children, hope for the best in their kids’ future and love to their family.
Yong ended the event with Proverbs 31:31—“Give her the reward she deserve. Praise her in the public for what she have done.” All the JAMs members gave their mothers a big hug and told them, “Mommy, I love you.”
