CHC’s Aircrew Fellowship went on a fruitful retreat to Penang.
City Harvest’s Aircrew Fellowship organized its annual retreat to sunny Penang Island on Mar. 13 this year. Thirty-three crew members, together with Tan Ye Peng, deputy senior pastor of City Harvest Church stayed at the most stylish address in Malaysia, G Hotel at Gurney Drive for four days and three nights.
The Aircrew Fellowship (AF) was formed with the vision to encourage Christian flight crew to have a deeper walk with God and to form meaningful friendships with one another. Through the fellowship, members also have the opportunity to be released into ministry to serve God and serve people.
The retreat was packed with engaging activities: a tour round the warm and humid city of Penang, a session of games on Batu Ferringhi beach, and a taste of the well-known Penang’s hawker delights were just some of these. The crew bonded as they engaged in these activities.
The highlight of the retreat was the sharing of the Word by Tan. He asked a few simple yet profound questions that got everyone thinking; one of these was, “What did each of the members expect from this retreat?” Tan shared his personal desire for the growth in the AF.
Tan’s message reminded the crew of how the AF was started by an inspiring message preached by CHC’s advisory chairman, Dr AR Bernard, on “Kristos Kai Kosmos”–bringing Christ into culture. Apart from feeling privileged that there are two great leaders mentoring the fellowship group, the members also felt the the burden of reaching a substantial harvest in the airline industry, which is well known for its glamor as well as its fallen nature.
Tan told the members about his desire to help them become true disciples of Christ. He explained his vision and hope for the AF through teaching and digging deep into the Word of God with a firm tone of conviction. The crew members were also given a chance to share about their Christ-inspired messages and testimonies in the session.
Two core members of the AF were also given an opportunity to exercise their talent and gift by leading workshops in CHC Penang. Celest Foo conducted a workshop titled “Power of Evangelism in Hospitality” and Shanti Athmalingam spoke on “Grooming And Styling”.
The crew ended their retreat after a visit to City Harvest Church Penang, where Tan preached during the weekend service. Everyone left the retreat spiritually elevated, emotionally connected with each other in Christ, each carrying a renewed vision and a spirited tagline: “We don’t do lukewarm!”
