Popular indoor playground Cool de Sac celebrates its second anniversary with a facelift and several new play attractions, including a souped-up ball pit, a doodle-all-you-like glass wall and special themed parties.
Drawing on walls—not something that’s allowed in Singapore unless you are a professional mural artist. Or a patron of Cool de Sac Singapore.
The glass wall painting activity is one of the newer additions to Cool de Sac, which celebrates its second anniversary this weekend (May 21-22) with non-stop activities from mass games and magic shows to balloon sculpting and face painting.
Since it opened in March 2014, the indoor playground at Suntec City Mall has carved out a niche for itself as not just a giant play pen but an enrichment wonderland where children develop skills in creativity and teamwork.
For example, one side of the 14,000-sqft area holds a glass wall that doubles as an art canvas for children to draw and paint on. “Art is messy, but everybody loves it,” says general manager Natalie Teo.
In the past two years, CDS has seen brisk business, which has picked up even more after a recent renovation. The flooring has been replaced for the purposes of hygiene, and older children will be able to indulge in interactive console games operated via a projector, in addition to the Wii and Nintendo games that have been available from the start.
Besides the play area, there is a “block building” section that allows children to unleash their inner architect—castles, cars and hideouts are common creations.
“It’s interesting when you see kids who are strangers with one another play together—it’s always interesting to see what they come up with!” says Teo. Parent-child bonding is another key value CDS seeks to foster. “Occasionally, there are competitions such as a recent one we held where father-and-child teams competed to build the tallest Lego tower.”
In line with its second anniversary, CDS will be launching themed parties complete with play kits, the first of which will be a royal tea party: girls get to dress up in a frock and tiara while boys don little suits, and have fun decorating muffins, among other activities.
Science-based events are also in the pipeline, which will involve collaborations with play-and-learn solution provider Thinkasaur to bring in monthly science experiment subscription boxes—the hot new thing in the edutainment industry right now.
The center also runs birthday parties, and partners with local schools to organize field trips or team-building activities.
Cool de Sac Singapore is operated by CityPlay Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of The Ink Room (TIR). CDS is a franchise brand originating from Florida, USA. While Singapore is its only branch in Asia, it also has branches in Mexico, Colombia, Qatar and Venezuela.
