Self-healing and preventative health management form the cornerstones of one’s well-being, advocates Body Inc.

Health, and not just cleanliness, is next to godliness. Building on the original, biblical concepts of health and well-being whereby God has given our body the innate intelligence to function, celebrity health practitioner and founder of wellness center Body Inc., Jacelyn Tay, held two Christian health workshops on June 16 and 23 to expound on why and how it is our job to create an environment for the body to self-heal.
“Food and nutrition is what builds up the body system, while our own immune system helps clear away toxins and bacteria, preventing us from falling sick,” says Tay. Body Inc., therefore, aims to help a client rebalance his or her hormonal, digestive and immune system through natural and alternative methods such as cupping, acupuncture and the usage of medicinal herbs, thus paving the way for the body to heal itself.
Tackling the question of why people need to take care of their bodies if they believe in a God who heals, Tay shared an analogy she had heard previously, “God made our bodies to be like cars, fueled with proper food (petrol), ready to run. If we pump sand instead of petrol into the car, can the car still operate?” The audience echoed resoundingly, “No!” She continued, “If we do not take care of our bodies and eventually fall sick, can God heal us?” This met with a hesitant response from the audience, to which Tay affirmed, “Of course God can heal because He is a God of miracles! However, will God heal us if we know we should put in petrol but instead, we knowingly feed the car with sand?” The participants nodded slowly in understanding, as they realized what she was driving at.
Underscoring the importance of blood as a bodily fluid that delivers necessary substances such as nutrients and oxygen to all parts of the body and transports waste away, Tay explained the science behind live blood microscopy, one of the methods of diagnosis at Body Inc. By putting a drop of blood sample under a microscope, a patient can see the state of his or her blood. “Our red blood cells should be uniform in shape and quite spread apart to allow gas exchange. People with red blood cells all cluttered together tend to feel more lethargic easily because less oxygen travels to the brain.” She elaborated that parasites and bacteria tend to thrive in bodies that are acidic and lack oxygen. “There is a need to cleanse our blood regularly to get rid of the parasites and bacteria otherwise these ‘bad guys’ will continue to eat up the nutrients that are meant for the body’s nourishment.” Symptoms of blood impurity include fatigue, headaches, allergies, breathing problems and weakened immune systems.

Another health practitioner, Zoe Teo, then took over the baton and shared about the difference between alkaline food (such as vegetables and fruits) and acidic food (such as chemicals, dairy products and meat) and the importance of eating more alkaline food than acidic food. Teo explained, “When our body becomes more acidic, a few things happen. Firstly, calcium may leak out of the bones in order to neutralize the blood, increasing the risk of osteoporosis. Secondly, fats tend to build up as a wall of defense to prevent the acids from attacking the vital organs thus the body becomes overweight.”
Clinical herbalist Alina Ucida then talked about the benefits of herbs and medicinal plants. She said that God placed Adam and Eve in a garden surrounded by trees, flowers and plants because it was His intention for plants to be a source of healing and well-being for mankind. Indeed, medicinal plants abound in healing properties found within its seeds, flowers, stems, leaves and even roots, and seek to tackle symptoms and root causes of illnesses by rebalancing the body systems to allow self-healing.
For example, hirudo aids in eliminating blood stasis and thus helps improve blood circulation, reduce numbness and headaches, while hawthorn aids in meat digestion and breakdown of fats. Western herbs, like the dandelion root, promote liver detoxification, with the leaves used to support kidney function. Unfortunately, as society progresses and technology improves, people rely more on synthetic drugs to cure the symptoms of their health condition rather than finding out the root cause of their illness. As a result, people are piling their bodies with even more drugs to counteract the different side effects, consequently harming their bodies. In worst scenarios, the body’s immune system breaks down and start to attack itself instead of the “foreign objects” causing the illness, which explains why auto-immune disorders are becoming more prevalent.
During the Q&A session, Tay shared with the audience that she noted a common attitude among Singaporeans—we tend to take our health for granted. “We seldom ask for the ingredients that are inside a meal, we seldom read the labels when we buy packaged food, we pop pill after pill whenever we are sick and feed our children with too much antibiotics.” She added, “We need to take good care of our body before it breaks down—this is preventive health management. Know about your blood condition, know how your digestive system works and know how your body can heal by itself.”
Sandrelle Quek, 37, posted a comment on Facebook after the workshop stating, “Ever since I emboldened myself to walk up to Body Inc.’s booth during Asia Conference, it has somehow changed my outlook on life and beauty. I was so concerned about becoming slim and pretty, but after attending the workshop on herbs, I realized that it’s all about balancing our body systems and that good health matters most. With that, the body will itself work to gain both inner and outer beauty.”
The next Christian Health Workshop on “The Healing Garden” is scheduled on July 21, 7 p.m. at Body Inc., 391 Orchard Road #05-19/20, Ngee Ann City. Call +65 6438 2558/2508 for registration and enquiries.
