Avid Twilight fans from Team Jacob will no doubt be excited to see their idol Taylor Lautner stepping out from the company of his fanged friends in this action thriller, which is, alas, a rather thrill-less outing.
Despite his seemingly perfect life, Nathan (Lautner) feels displaced from society and his own family; it feels as if he is living someone else’s life. When he stumbles upon a picture of himself as a young boy on a missing person’s website, the puzzle that his life is starts coming together even as it falls apart, as he realizes that his whole life has been a lie. Within 24 hours, he find himself on the run from ex-Serbian assassins led by Viktor Kozlow (Michael Nyqvist from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo). To add in more eye candy and a love interest, Nathan is accompanied by his childhood friend and schoolmate Karen (Lily Collins).
Despite hints at deeper issues such as self-identity and vengeance, the movie fails to impress the audience on two fundamental levels. Firstly, there could have been more thrilling action scenes, especially given Lautner’s training in martial arts. As the protagonist, his character is also inexcusably one-dimensional, even if his physique is anything but. Sadly, the entire movie will quickly be forgotten as you step out of the movie theater.
