With the purpose of bringing the project closer to the hearts of Singaporeans, Boys’ Brigade Share-a-Gift project has moved its main gift box location out of Orchard road into the suburbs at AMK Hub.
For the last 24 years, the Boys’ Brigade in Singapore has celebrated Christmas by encouraging Singaporeans to donate a gift in the form of a basic household item, or to fulfill a specific wish of a needy person. This requires the donor to make extra effort to buy gifts beyond financial giving, making the project unique.
This year, this project hopes to encourage more Singaporeans to help those who are in need. The organizers have fulfilled 29,041 wishes this year, the highest number in the program’s history. They have also engaged volunteer car owners to help publicize the event by pasting a promotional sticker on their vehicle doors for a month.
BBSG 2011 was officially launched by President Tony Tan at a ceremony at Ang Mo Kio Hub’s FairPrice Xtra store on Nov. 24. The public can make donations between Nov. 23 and Dec. 20 this year.
HOW YOU CAN GIVE
Play a part in this meaningful event by contributing any of the 13 general food and household items, such as rice, oil, sugar, biscuits and cereals. These items will make up a basic household item hamper for underprivileged families.
Those who wish to fulfill the wishes of other beneficiaries who have requested for items, such as a walking stick or a teddy bear, can adopt a specific wish from any of the three Boys’ Brigade Share-a-Gift Specific Wish Trees located at the NTUC FairPrice Xtra outlets at Ang Mo Kio HUB, Jurong Point and Nex Mall.
Those who want to share a gift can drop their gift at any of the project’s 15 gift boxes islandwide, which operates from 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily.
Besides the physical Gift Boxes and Wish Trees, contributors can purchase and donate via NTUC’s FairPrice online portal (www.fairprice.com.sg) as well as make a wish contribution through any AXS machine.
