What can we do for the superhero who feeds, teaches, supports, comforts, encourages us every day? Four City Harvest Church pastors release special blessings upon the mothers in our lives.
This Mother’s Day is extra special because, in Singapore and around the world, mothers with school-going children have been trying to juggle running the household—cooking, cleaning, doing the laundry—with their children being at home, and worse—having to handle the two scariest acronyms this year: WFH (work from home) and HBL (home-based learning).
Those with young children have probably found it impossible to work while answering “Why? Why? Why?” all day long in between trying to get their little ones to nap. Single moms have a tough time disciplining their children, working, and making ends meet all on their own.
Then there are the mothers who have not seen their grownup children for weeks, because they can’t visit at this time. And grandmothers who suddenly find the house eerily quiet for the lack of their grandchildren.
We are where we are today not just because of our mother’s sacrifices, but also because of their prayers. This Mother’s Day, let’s take a minute to remember them in our prayers. We’ve asked four pastors to each say a prayer for the heroines in our homes—the best gift our mothers can receive today is a touch from heaven.
PASTOR EILEEN TOH: A PRAYER FOR MOTHERS JUGGLING DIFFERENT ROLES ALL DAY
“Dear Heavenly Father, this Mother’s Day we want to give you thanks for entrusting us to be stewards over our jobs, our homes, and especially over our families. Even as we bear responsibility, juggling our work, managing the home and being our children’s support during their learning season, we thank you for Lamentations 3:22-23: ‘The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.’
“I pray for every mother this special day that she will experience Your Mercy in the many responsibilities she has to handle. Even when she doesn’t feel that she is at her best, we know that Your mercies are new every day and Your steadfast love never comes to an end.
“I pray that every mother will know that she is Unique. Envelop her with your love, no matter what the day has been like. She is your specially chosen vessel to carry the love of God in all that she does because You first loved them.
“I pray for every mother to have the strength and capacity to Manage. As she remains faithful in managing so many things, we know that You will reward her as You are the Faithful One.
“Every day of her life, be it good or bad, help her to cast her cares on You. As she turns her affection on You at the end of each day, we know that she will be refreshed by You every new day.
“In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
PASTOR LILY YONG: FOR MOTHERS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN
“Father, in the name of Jesus, we lift up all our special parents into Your hands. We declare Psalms 23 over their lives, especially in this trying time. God, I pray that they will remember how You love them and their children tenderly, and I pray that they will experience the rest and restoration, and the peace and the provision their soul needs.
“Truly You are the Good Shepherd over their lives. I pray that You will give them the strength they need to persevere in their parenting journey especially during this Circuit Breaker period. I pray that they will constantly experience Your power in a brand new way as they release their burdens and stress to You. Truly God, You know what it is like to be overwhelmed, and to desire for things to change. I pray that despite their emotions, they will surrender to Your will as Jesus did. God, let Your peace that surpasses all understanding, rule and reign in their hearts and family. We speak Your shalom upon every household. I pray that in these trying times, they will be filled with hope as they continue in their special needs parenting journey.
“In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen”
PASTOR TAN YAH LAN, FOR SINGLE MOTHERS:
“Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you that each single mother is a Godly steward of each of their children and that they raise them in the ways of the Lord. Father, we pray and ask that You continue to give them grace and wisdom to walk out being a single parent with kindness and generosity.
“We thank You that You see each of them and love them, and You care about every big or small thing that concerns them. Manifest Your presence in their lives that they may know that You are there for them, and remind them that You will never leave nor forsake them. They are the apple of Your eye.
“In Your unfailing love, deliver them from their anxieties, loneliness, trouble, and pain. Break every chain in their lives and cancel out every lie from the enemy. Fill their hearts with the Holy Spirit and also guide them in their lives where they need answers or comfort. Place a hedge of protection around each single mother and her children, Father. We thank You that You alone are their Provider.
“Give them divine strength that they may continue to be there for their children. Be their source of strength when they are weak, and keep them healthy so that they can take care of their children. Let them find rest in You, Father.
“We pray and ask these things in Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
“Isaiah 54:10 (NIV): ‘Though the mountains are shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,’ says the Lord, who has compassion on you.”
PASTOR VERONICA TANG, FOR MOTHERS WHO HAVE LOST A CHILD
“Dear Abba, on this special day, I want to lift up all the mothers who have lost their children into Your hands.
“Psalms 23:4 (TPT) reads, ‘Lord, even when your path takes me through the valley of deepest darkness, fear will never conquer me, for you already have! You remain close to me and lead me through it all the way. Your authority is my strength and my peace. The comfort of your love takes away my fear. I’ll never be lonely, for you are near.’
“Father, You were with them when the moment of heartbreak happened, You are with them now and You will be with them in the future. You know all the unseen tears that have wet their cheeks and You number every teardrop; their hurt is not lost on You. You remain close to them and Your comfort will take away every fear and every pain of loss. Let them trust that You are still a loving, compassionate, and sovereign God.
“We may not understand why tragedy struck in this lifetime, but we know that You are a good Father who loves us. That precious child is now in Your arms in heaven where there is no pain, no more death, no more mourning, crying, or pain. The day will come when they will meet their child in heaven and they will be reunited, hand in hand, together forevermore.
“May the love, hope, peace, and joy of God surround you and encompass you.
“In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
