This review has been intentionally kept short as befitting a movie that doesn’t have much to say itself, except that when it comes to a girl’s most important day (a.k.a her wedding), nobody better stand in her way.
Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson play a pair of BFFs who share a lifelong dream of getting married at the uber-posh Plaza Hotel, Manhattan’s definitive wedding venue.
As plot, sorry, we mean chance would have it, they get engaged at the same time, but due to a clerical error, it turns out that there is only available slot at the Hotel, and one girl has to change her plans. Of course, neither would back down, and thus begins a series of nasty tricks like blue hair dye, orange fake tans and other varied forms of sabotage to stop each other from walking down the aisle.
To be fair, this movie doesn’t set out to be anything more than empty calories for the celluloid appetite. Still, the scriptwriters could have done more instead of just filling it with funny practical jokes and perpetuations of consumerism that abound in the wedding business.
More importantly, it would have been nice if it had at least concluded with a more creative ending that doesn’t scream C.O.P O.U.T.
Save your time and money, and watch the trailer instead — whatever funny bits and catty lines are already in it. Now excuse us while we return to re-runs of the infinitely more entertaining My Best Friend’s Wedding.
